Today, some of his personal staff and his PSO pedalled along with the Minister.
No security personnel in uniform accompanied the Minister though .
Speaking to media persons at his office at Old Secretariat, the Minister said he is inspired by the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat about avoiding the use of petrol and diesel for one day in the week to conserve fuel and contribute towards Nation building .
He said that he not only respects the PM but also loves cycling.
Cycling will improve the economy and will help in improving the health of the youth.
It will also narrow the gap between the rich and the poor, he added .
Karam Shyam said that he will ride the cycle to office every Thursday as long as he remains a Minister.
He further said that he wanted to convey the message to the youth that there is no shame in riding a cycle .
Replying to a query, Karam Shyam said he chose Thursday since he abstains from non-vegetarian food (including fish) every Thursday.
He further said that the CM had also praised and appreciated him for his decision to ride a bicycle once in a week.
Some Ministers of the present State Govt led by BJP have sacrificed their monthly salaries to help the poor, he said and added that it is a sign that the system is witnessing a change in the right direction.
He further said that he is also happy that he could donate Rs 50,000 from his monthly salary to help the needy.
