Tamenglong observes World Social Justice Day

Tamenglong, February 20 2012:
The Indigenous Women and Children Foundation, IWCF in collaboration with Town Churches Union, Unleash Vision, Hornbill and Traders Association Tamenglong today observed World Social Justice Day at Mini Stadium Tamenglong.
C Arthur W, Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong; L.Ibomcha, District Social Welfare Officer, Tamenglong and Rev.Guingopou Gonmei, President of Town Churches Union Tamenglong graced the function as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.
Guitiang Pamei, Lecturer in Tamenglong Higher Secondary School and Khondinliu Gonmei, Editor, The Manipur Mirror also attended the function as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion C Arthur W, said that Tamenglong district is among the districts where many human trafficking cases surfaced due to various reasons including defunct educational institutions and lack of medical facilities.
He observed that parents and church leaders can play great role in preventing human trafficking and called upon all the Church leaders to sensitizing
the people.
Speaking as a resource person, Guitiang Pamei noted that children from poor families are mostly victims of human trafficking in Tamenglong.
So, the problem of human trafficking could be solved if special measures for initiated for improving the economic condition of the people.
Khondinliu Gonmei, Editor, The Manipur Mirror pointed out that most of the cases of human trafficking reported in Tamenglong district are related to the concern of the parents to send their children for better education prospects.
So,there is the need to improve the condition and functioning of government schools in the district.
If the government schools function properly, the parents would be encouraged to send their children to these schools instead of sending them to outside the state and unwittingly making their children to become victims of human trafficking.
At the occasion, Namtinram, a victim of human trafficking but was subsequently rescued, recounted her ordeals.
