Chakpikarong museum serving as treasure trove of Anal tribe

The traditional garments worn by the women of Anal tribe since time immemorial are being conscientiously preserved at the Chakpikarong mini museum in Chakpikarong bazar, Chandel district.
The mini museum set up at the house of PS Shylo of Chakpikarong bazar has huge collection of traditional attires of the Anal tribe, including cloths and necklaces used by the wealthier families during the early days.
For contemporary generation to understand the past history of Anal, apparels used during battles as well as various musical instruments are also preserved at the museum, in addition to the old photographs, statues of tribal in hunting position.
Chakpikarong, where settlement started in 1920, is now recognised as a sub-district.
The centenary celebration of the formation of Chakpikarong village was also celebrated on December 21, 2021 wherein a prominent person of the village namely Chapa Ts Berek pointed out the need for unity and integrity among the people as existed during the early days.
Chakpikarong is adorned with natural beauty and as such attracts substantial number of tourists.
Pedal boats are made available at the Chakpi River which has now been developed into a water resort.
A number of family picnic spots are also maintained on the Pamtuyang River bank.
A new bridge has also been constructed near the Chakpikarong bazar thereby enhancing its profile as a tourist destination.
A small hill station named Lilybung which was later renamed Gamvet Muol also draws tourist, informed some villagers.
Anal is the majority tribe in Chakpikarong which has a total of 171 villages.
The villagers mainly sustain livelihood through fishing and agricultural activities.
The most popular festival of the Anal tribe Chavan Kumhrin, which is a harvest festival, is celebrated with pomp and show.
