Minister assures transparency in Education Department

Education minister Th Basanta has assured that all the processes in the education department right from recruitment of teachers to transfer and posting of officials will be carried out in a transparent manner, free from corruption in order to bring about positive changes in the education sector.
The minister was attending a felicitation function of three Padmashri award winning artisans of the state organised jointly by DM Community College/DDU Kaushal Kendra, DM College of Science and DM University at the central hall of DM College of Science on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, minister Basanta emphasised on the importance of education in the society and informed that the government is putting its focus on education sector.
While assuring of bringing improvement in the education sector, the minister said that he will take suggestions from not only those in the academic circles but also from CSOs and public in this regard.
He further said that NEP 2020 has provision for incorporating local contents in the school curriculum up to 30 per cent and there are plans to fully implement the policy by 2030 .
He along with the chief minister had a discussion in this regard with officials of MU, BSEM, COHSEM and SCERT.
Consequently, a draft will be produced soon that has local contents that include history and culture of the state, the minister revealed.
Basanta also stated that the Padmashri award winning artisans are the pride of the state and they did not reach the level through an easy way.
They are getting such recognition after years of hard work, determination, discipline and focus.
Students should always strive to cultivate the same characteristics in order to succeed in their lives, he said, while assuring everything possible from his side for the welfare of the students.
While pledging transparent process in recruitment and transfer & posting of teachers, the minister said that rationalisation of transfer for teachers will be taken up soon in order to address the issue of lack of teaching staff in hill areas due to utilisation in valley areas.
Padmashri award winning artisans Lourembam Bino, Konsam Ibomcha and Moirangthem Muktamani were honoured on the occasion.
'Women entrepreneurs and Aatmanirbhar Manipur', a book edited jointly by Sukhdev Hanjabam, Aheibam Koireng and Sadam Hanjabam was also released as part of the function.
A classroom of DM Community College was also inaugurated on the occasion by the minister.
DM University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon presided over the function which was also attended by Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra and DM College of Science principal Dr M Bhubaneshwari as guests of honour.
