AMNL spells out measures to control crime against women

Vice President of All Manipur Nupi Lup (AMNL) S Sakhi highlighted some of the measures to control the rising crimes against women in the state.
Speaking at the 73rd foundation day of AMNL at Press Club on Monday, Sakhi said that considering the increased rate of crime against women in the state, it is high time for all sections of the society to discuss how to control it.
Pointing out measures to control crime against women, Sakhi said that the first and foremost step is to establish women police stations and fast track courts in all the districts to handle cases related to women and for speedy judgments.
Moreover, establishment of education commission at the national level is required to impart moral education and guidelines and improve the character of youngsters.
State board as well as the Council should also include lessons on human rights, women empowerment, child rights and other women and child related issues in the academic syllabus.
Women organizations and authorities should be empowered to monitor mass media contents and safeguard the rights of women, she noted, and added that apart from protecting women's rights, authorities should take up measures to efface evil thoughts against women from male.
Ex-Minister of Art & culture Dr M Nara Singh, who attended the function as a special invitee, said that women's rights are being violated in various forms including discrimination by husband and his family members.
So, women should unite and fight against such discrimination and atrocities.
In order to control crime against women, women community should be treated at par with male counterparts in the society, Dr Nara added.
Chief Guest of the function Prof.Ksh Bimola, Manipur University also pointed out the importance of moral education in controlling crime against women.
President of AMNL S Sorojini presided over the function.
