Imphal, August 04 2013:
Shopkeepers of Singjamei Keithel have decried the State Government's order to evict 11 shops near Singjamei Bridge.
Addressing media persons at Singjamei Keithel here today, Secretary of Phee Yonpham Dukan Apunba Lup Singjamei Keithel Soibam Thoibi said that the shopkeepers have been running the shops for the last 30/40 years.
However, sudden eviction of these shops would deprive the livelihood of many people.
The State Government should not try to harm the shopkeepers by evicting their shops, she demanded.
She also termed the eviction order as ''partial'' as many shops lying close to the main road have not been included for eviction, though 11 shops near the bridge have been ordered for demolition by the Government recently.
The Secretary further stated that the shopkeepers have already apprised the local MLAs of Singjamei and Thongju about the eviction order and urged them to take up necessary action at the earliest.
