Asserting that Congress party spoke on behalf of the crisis-hit public as a responsible opposition party to point out the faults in the policy of the BJP government, MPCC media panellist M Sureshkumar has asked the BJP government if it has been increasing the price of petrol and diesel gradually for the last seven years after having prior knowledge of outbreak of Covid-19.Terming the response of BJP vice-president as an attempt to mislead the public, Sureshkumar said that MPCC president Govindas saw the faults in the government policy and brought up the matter as the public are facing the impact of unreasonable price hike in petrol and diesel.
It was not an attempt to gain political mileage but the duty of the opposition to point out the real issues concerning the people due to mistakes of the government.
It is unfortunate that BJP is trying to divert attention of the public from the real issue by vilifying the Congress for bringing up public issue.
Pointing out mistakes of a government is the bounder duty of the opposition party but it seems the BJP is not aware of the role of ruling and opposition in a government.
Apology should be tendered by those who commit mistakes and it is the BJP government that is committing the error at this juncture.
It is rather quixotic for the BJP leaders to concede that government has no control over fuel price.
Even if the fuel price is deregulated, the government always has control on it and it is the duty of the government to ease the hardships of the public, he said.
Sureshkumar then asked the government if it has done anything for the welfare of the crisis-hit people of the state.
He also asked the government if it has introduced any scheme for the returnees of Covid first wave, which the government made to register on its portal.
He further enquired if the government has prior knowledge of Covid-19 that it had to increase the price of petrol and diesel for the last seven years.
He also enquired the whereabouts of the amount donated to the CM's relief fund.
Congress did not levy high taxes on fuel when UPA introduced NFSA and provided rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg.
It is not saying that benefits provided to the public are falling from the sky, the media panellist added.
