Senapati, March 16 2015:
United Naga Council (UNC) has petitioned BJP National president Amit Shah demanding the latter's clarification on the Sadar Hills issue.
The UNC demanded from the BJP National president to clarify the party's political agenda on the issue of the 'so called' Sadar Hills of Senapati district and Jiribam sub division.
"On one day awareness cum mass enrolment program of the BJP held on February 19, 2015 at Henbung village in Senapati district, Th.Chaoba Singh, president, BJP, Manipur State unit while speaking uttered that Sadar Hills would be up-graded into full fledged District if, BJP comes to power in the next Manipur Legislative Assembly Election and also to up-grade Jiribam Sub Division into full fledged district by carving/slicing out a sizable land portion from Naga tribal district of Tamenglong," pointed out the UNC.
It then said the issue of the so called Sadar Hills is one of the bone of contention that divides amongst tribal communities in particular.
Many bandhs and blockades had been organized and even precious lives and properties worth croes of Rupees had been lost in this connection but knowingly, political party(s) still holds and plays the communal card of Sadar Hills and Jiribam for their own electoral gains.
"Political parties, groups or individuals should not undermine the signing of four memorandum of understanding (MoU)' signed between the Government of Manipur and the Naga civil societies on December 14, 1981, November 10, 1992, September 27, 1996 and June 23, 1998 and also the intervention of the Government of India on the issue in the recent past," said the UNC.
It then said that the Naga people seriously viewed his utterance and considered it as a direct challenge and since Th.Chaoba had opened the Pandoras' Box, the UNC seeks official clarification of BJP's policy/agenda on the so called Sadar Hills of Senapati District and Jiribam Sub Division from Amit Shahji, National president, BJP at the earliest if it comes to power in the ensuing state General Election and failing which, the Naga people will not remain silent but take serious steps upon the party concern in Naga areas of Manipur.
