Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) threatened to launch strike

The contractual staffs of Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP), Manipur have threatened to launch cease work strike from July 27 if measures were taken up to reduce their monthly salaries.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club today, T Lenin, General Secretary of All Manipur RNTCP Contractual Staffs Welfare Union, informed that the RNTCP has been initiated in the state since 1999.Under this programme, various TB control programmes are being taken up apart from providing medicines to TB patients.
He further informed that the RNTCP is a fully sponsored programme of the Central Government.
The salaries of the contractual staffs of RNTCP are paid according to the guidelines of the Central TB Division (CTD).
The contractual staffs of the state have been enjoying the pay scale as fixed by the CTD upto March, 2012 .
However, there has been report that the Pay Implementation Centre (PIC) of the State Government has sent a written application to Manipur TB Officer in connection with reduction of salaries of the RNTCP contractual staffs.
But no order in this regard has been issued so far.
If the report is true, 30% of the salaries of the contractual staffs would be reduced which is not acceptable at all.
If measures to reduce their salaries were taken up, all the contractual staffs of RNTCP of Manipur would resort to pen down strike from 27 July.
During the course of the agitation, no medicines would be supplied to the patients.
At present there are around 116 contractual RNTCP staffs in the state.
