Imphal, July 22 2012:
The 60 hours State-wide general strike being imposed against abduction of contractor Irungbam Irabanta allegedly by NSCN-IM since yesterday morning is most effective between Khurai Lamlong and Yaingangpokpi along Imphal-Ukhrul road.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the JAC Against the Abduction of Irungbam Irabanta by NSCN(IM) informed that the ongoing general strike would be suspended tomorrow (July 23) in view of the third death anniversary of Thokchom Rabina and Chungkham Sanjit.
Sources informed that complete shut-down marked Lamlong Keithel, Sawombung, Pungdongbam Lamkhai and Yaingangpokpi Keithel.
Except for a single bus which reached Imphal from Ukhrul early in the morning, all passenger carriers stayed off the road.
However, there was movement of a few two-wheelers and other private vehicles.
Apart from a single incident of vandalising one auto-rickshaw by general strike supporters at Nongdam, there is no report of any untoward incident so far.
The whereabouts of Irungbam Irabanta who left home on May 27 remain untraceable till date.
However, the general strike has little impact at Khwairamband market and other district headquarters.
Flight service as well as inter-State bus service went on as usual.
