Imphal, July 12 2017:
All Manipur College Teacher's Association (AMCTA) observed Justice day at the conference hall of Oriental College today, under the theme The Scenario of Higher Education in India and 7th UGC Pay.
Speaking at the event, AMCTA Zonal secretary (NE), All India Federation of University & College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO), M Lokendro Singh stressed on the uncertain future of higher education in the State.
He pointed out that the mushrooming private schools and educational institutions has created immense hardship and inconveniences for the economically backward students.
M Lokendro explained that inaction by the authority concerned and lack of funds for developing the educational landscape has resulted in the establishment of various campuses of foreign institutions in the country.
Lokendro alleged that a new body called Higher Education Empowerment Regulation Agency (HEERA) is in the works to replace Central Government's UGC and AICTE and expressed suspicion about involvement of foul play in the process.
He also warned that dissolving the two bodies might have serious implications.
Lokendro also pointed out that the assurance given by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar regarding implementation of the 7th Pay Commission has not materialised.
