Meghachandra assures development of DIPR

Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of Information and Public Relations (IPR) K Meghachandra has assured that he will draw the attention of the Chief Minister for completion of the new DIPR building now under construction, filling up of vacant posts and regularization of all the contractual employees in the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) which has been doing a yeomen services in publicising the activities of the Government.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the Information and Public Relations Day, 2013 celebration held at the at the premises of the Directorate located within the MSRTC complex at Moirangkhom here today.
Presided over by Commissioner of IPR Letkhogin Haokip, the celebration was marked by presentation of gifts to honour the retired employees of the Directorate as well as veteran journalists of the State.
Meghachandra said that DIPR as an important Government department that links between the people and Government by disseminating on various developmental activities like projects and schemes of both the Central and state Governments.
Publicizing the Government's activities in a democratic country like India strengthens the democratic system.
So, the attention of the Chief Minister would be drawn for completion of the new DIPR building now under construction, filling the post vacancies and regularization of all the contractual employees in the directorate.
Earlier delivering the key note address, Director of IPR W Rajen recalled that DIPR, Manipur began functioning after appointment of its Publicity Officer on November 1, 1949 and it was upgraded to a directorate status later in March 1974 .
In 1975, publicity units of the directorate were set up at the district headquarters by sending one reporter or information assistant each which had widen the activities of the directorate whose district information officers were also recruited later on, he further related.
The MIC in New Delhi links up with different ministries of Government of India maintaining good relations to provide information to the public, he added.
Invitees of the function also spoke on the early establishment episode of the DIPR and its present relationship with the press.
The day was also observed in many parts of the state.
The District IPR, Thoubal district marked the day at the district Mini Secretariat (North Block).
Khundrakpam Khomei Singh, Secretary, Block Panchayat Parishad, Thoubal, Ph Bhavananda, SDC (headquarter) and Deputy Commissioner office, Thoubal and S Nasir Ahmad, Deputy Superintendent of Excise shared the dais during the function.
The keynote address was given by Th Sharat Sharma, District Information Officer.
District Information Office Chandel also observed the IPR Day in a function held its hall.
Ringkham Khumlo, SDC (headquarter), Chandel, and Ch Ningthemjao, District Information Officer attended it as chief guest and president.
Four staff members of the District Information Office were cheered up by awarding prizes on the occasion.
