Imphal, October 03 2016:
Information Centre for Hills Area Manipur (ICHAM) has extended its support to the cease work strike by the Transport and Drivers Council (TDC) from October 2 against the worsening condition of the Imphal-Jiribam highway.
ICHAM president N Boy Singh, in a press meet held at ICHAM office at Khurai Lamlong today said ICHAM has conducted various surveys of the Imphal-Jiribarn road and submitted the reports to the Government authorities regarding the inefficiency of BRTF without much effect.
TDC's cease work protest is a result of the Government's inability to fix the life-line of Manipur.
While extending support to the cease work protest, Boy said ICHAM will support all the future agitation of the TDC.
One reason why the Imphal-Jiribam road has been neglected for so long may be that the State Government's development plan is centred only in the valley area, Boy asserted. The report produced by ICHAM in 2009 highlighted all the inefficiencies of BRTF in handling Imphal-Jiribam road project.
BRTF may be a reliable and trusted company outside the State but, it has completely failed to perform in the State, Boy stated.
The State Govt should relieve BRTF of the task of repairing the Imphal to Jiribam road if it wants to see any improvement on the road stretch.
