State observes Martyrs' day

Imphal, January 30, 2013:
As done in other parts of the country, the Martyrs' Day was observed in different parts of the State today commemorating the 65th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the Nation.
The main observance function was held under the aegis of State Government at GM Hall here.
The State function which was started off with the opening song presented by students of Bal Mukundo Government Music College was attended by Governor Gurbachan Jagat as Chief Guest, PHED Minister I Hemochandra as President graced the function held at GM Hall here as chief guest and president and MLA MK Preshow Shimray as Guest of Honour.
The Governor led the rest of the dignitaries who were present in the occasion in offering floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and other departed leaders.
A two minutes silence was observed and Siren was blared to mark the occasion.
Apart from Minister and MLAs, top Government officials of both civil and police were also present on the occasion.
The day was also observed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan today.
The observance was attended by MLA Bira, MLA E Chand and other members of MPCC.
