WAD undertakes visits to rape, murder victims under 'Speedy Justice' theme

Justice is yet to be delivered in the cases of Angom Chanbi (38 years) and her daughter Menaka (16 years), whose dead bodies were recovered from Sampha Loukon at Phayeng Ching Khunou on January 23, 2010 .
This has been revealed during the investigation visit undertaken by Women Action for Development (WAD) as part of the observance of International Fortnight Observation protesting violence against women from November 25.The visit to the victim families of rape and murders under the theme 'Speedy Justice' began today.
During today's visit to Phayeng Nungaban Leikai by WAD Secretary Sobita Mangsatabam along with media persons, Angom Amuthoi and Angom ongbi Manitombi, father-in-law and mother-in-law of late Angom Chanbi told the visiting team that Chanbi having five children had been an Anagnwadi Worker under ICDS project of Social welfare department.
Chanbi's husband had died leaving behind the three girls and two boys under her care.

18 year old Ibohal, her eldest son is good in studies and industrious.
Ibemcha alias Menaka, 16 years then was also deeply interested in studies.
In spite of poverty, Chanbi managed to send all her children to Don Bosco School Phayeng.
Unfortunately, after the death of his father, eldest son Ibohal joined an armed group, for which Chanbi was highly saddened.
Chanbi managed her family by her small earning of Rs.750 per month.
On the intervening night of January 12 and 13 in 2010, some people said to be Ibohal's friend knocked her door.
The two half-masked persons took away Chanbi and her daughter Menaka, narrated the parent-in laws.
After 10 days, the dead bodies of the mother-daughter duo were found at Sampha Loukon at Phayeng Ching Khunou.
Menaka's body bore signs of being gangraped, while some portions of Chanbi's face appeared to have been bitten by dogs.
The remaining three children of Chanbi - Sonika (16 years), Dinku (14 years) and Rita (13 years) are presently studying at North Point School in class XI, IX and VII respectively and staying at the boarding with the expenses borne by Assam Rifles.
While Amuthoi is unable to work due to half-paralysis of the body, her wife Manitombi is earning family's livelihood by cultivating in the field.
The parent-in-laws of Angom Chanbi iterated their strong yearning to punish the culprits involved in the murder of the two.
According to Sobita Mangsatabam, the WAD also collected reports from concerned police stations regarding the progress of cases of rapes and murders.
During the enquiry, the WAD found that the Investigating Officer (IO) for murder case of Khullem Tondon (16) of Luker Mayai Leikai has not yet submitted the chargesheet even after 20 months of the incident.
It may be recalled that mother of the victim, Khullem Ongbi Pishak, after the death of her husband, was living with three daughters and one son.
Tondon who was the third child, dropped out of the school after studying class-VII due to poverty.
She bought a mobile handset with the money she got from MGNREGS works in November 2012.On March 5 in 2013, the dead body of Tondon was found floating on Haorang river under Lamshang police station.
The dead body wore marks indicating rape.
Police lodged an FIR case bearing number 9(3)2013 LSP-PSU/S-302/376/34IPS. Thereafter, Ningthoujam Sanjit (25) from Tairenpopi surrendered to Lamshang Police Station disclosing his involvement in the murder.
After some time, Sanjit was released by police, and two persons said to be involved in the case were arrested.
Mutum Sanajaoba (16) son of Tomba from Maklang bazaar and Laishram Naoba (15) son of L.Khuman from Maklang Awang Leikai, being juveniles, are said to be lodged in observation house currently.
Till now, the post mortem report of the deceased Khullen Tondon has not been received, stated mother of the victim Pishak.
