Imphal, July 23 2021:
Even though E-commerce delivery service is exempted from the purview of the ongoing 10-day total curfew, the delivery executives are being detained by police personnel, alleged United Committee on Delivery Executives, Manipur.
A virtual meeting attended by Freshcart store managing director Joy-chand Moirangthem, Food Wifi co-founder and director Bickychand, SF delivery co-founder and managing director Vitoo Oinam, Taste of Imphal managing director Leishana Laishram and Book Tou business lead Robert Salam was held in this regard on Friday.
In a release, the Committee stated that as per the order issued by Chief Secretary on July 19, e-commerce delivery service is exempted from the purview of the total curfew.
Subsequently, e-commerce stores started their services of delivering essential day-to-day items including vegetables, medicine, grocery items, sanitary items, baby foods, etc.
However, delivery executives are being detained by police personnel citing that local e-commerce is not permitted to resume their service except for established firms such as Amazon, Myntra, etc.
Such act of police personnel is creating confusion over the relaxation order issued by the chief secretary, it continued, while adding that delivery executives are strictly following SOPs in dispensing their services.
Moreover, they are being tested for Covid-19 regularly and most of them have been vaccinated.
The committee urged the government and the DGP to look into the matter and allow e-commerce delivery service to perform their work without any disturbance.
On the other hand, officials of police department as well as Imphal West district administration stated that the government has been trying to settle the confusion.
As local e-commerce services have started gathering and there is possibility of violating the SOP laid down for containing the virus, police personnel detained the executives, they clarified.
