Imphal, October 22 2014:
Gearing up for the ensuing 2017 Assembly election and to ensure return of maximum number of party MLAs in the Assembly, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is all set to announce the names of party candidates for the Assembly election next month.
Addressing a press meet today at the party office located at Moirangkhom, AITC Manipur unit president, MLA Th Shyamkumar said that the first phase of the party's candidates for the ensuing Assembly election would be announced on Nov 17 .
Shyamkumar said the advance announcement of party candidates would help avoid eleventh minute hassle.
It would also help the candidates to be better prepared.
Expressing gratitude to the voters of Hiyanglam who voted for the AITC candidate in the recently conducted by-poll, Th Shyamkumar said he is convinced that the development deficits in the Assembly segment due to negligence for the last 30 years in health, education, irrigation and road communication sectors would be mended in the coming two and half years.
Saying that voters of Hiyanglam AC were swayed by the promises of Chief Minister O Ibobi, who assured to implement several development projects, the AITC leader said whether these promises are delivered or not should be closely observed by the people.
Shyamkumar also wished that the deplorable Imphal-Jiri highway be improved collectively by the Congress MLAs like they shared responsibilities of polling stations of Hiyanglam AC in the by-election.
He said that Trinamool MLAs be given the residue of the highway improvement works.
He also extended best wishes to the people of the State on the auspicious occasions of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba.
He wished the festivals usher in love and peaceful coexistence among the different communities of the State.
Admitting defeat in the by-election, AITC candidate of Hiyanglam AC Dr M Radheshyam said the by-poll was not free and fair.
Many voters were coerced to vote for a certain candidate.
