First CM of Manipur remembered

MK Priyobarta, first Chief Minister of Manipur, was remembered on his 104th birth anniversary at Lamyanba, Palace Compound, under the initiative of Manipur Cultural Integration Conference (MCIC) on Tuesday.
Speaking on the birth anniversary as Chief Guest, Chief Minister O Ibobi said MK Priyobarta was the founder of Modern Manipur and a multifaceted person.
He not only contributed in the field of politics but also in fine arts, said Ibobi.
The Chief Minister further observed that MK Priyobarta travelled widely in nooks and corners of Manipur and interacted with people.
He tried to understand each of the communities and made efforts to sow the seeds of integrity in Manipur.
After retiring from state politics, Priyobarta spent his time for social uplift especially in the field of higher education.
MK Priyobarta believed that development could be brought only though education.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of education, Manipur University honoured him by conferring D Lit on him, said the Chief Minister.
As a part of the birth anniversary, floral tributes were paid to the late leader.
Manipur's Eminent Artist, a documentary film by Thiyam Devendra & Dr RK Somorjit, was released by the Chief Guest.
Thoidingjam Tombi Singh delivered the MK Priyobarta Memorial Lecture on Paintings of MK Priyobarta.
