Protesters throng at JNIMS gate; Dir appeals for suspension of stir

Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Director Dr L Deben on Monday appealed to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the closing of Pong Lambi by JNIMS Authority to suspend their ongoing stir so that JNIMS authorities can resume normal duties.
During an interaction with media persons at JNIMS, Dr Deben said that demanding reopening of Pong Lambi, the JAC has undergone agitations including closing of the hospital's gate and public curfew within the hospital campus which has led to disruption of medical services.
A copy of the memorandum submitted by the JAC to the hospital's authority has been sent to the officials of Medical Council of India (MCI).
But when a memorandum to reopen the Pong Lambi was submitted to one MIC team during their Manipur visit on October 29 last, it was told that a public road cannot go through a hospital campus under the Minimum Standard Requirement Schedule 1 of MCI Guidelines, said Dr Deben.
The JNIMS Director further said that the JAC had before met with the Chief Minister O Ibobi along with the hospital's representatives.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also reiterated that IMC will not allow reopening of Pong Lambi since it was against the guidelines of the Council.
Dr Deben appealed the JAC and the protesters to suspend their agitation since it has caused great disturbances to both the patients as well to the hospital authorities.
All Non-Regular Employee Association has also submitted a memorandum to the hospital authorities demanding to settlement.
JNIMS Dr Mohen said that the JAC has been undergoing various form of agitation since October 27 last.
On October 29 last, the protesters locked the class room doors from outside when the students were inside the classroom, said Dr Mohen and appealed them not to repeat such acts.
Meanwhile, as part of ongoing agitations, number of woman protesters on Monday thronged at the JNIMS main gate and blocked public movements.
No one was allowed to enter the hospital gate while they stopped everybody inside the hospital campus going out of the gate.
A woman protester said that their agitation will continue until the Pong Lambi reopens.
