Imphal, September 30 2012:
Assam Rifles has been doing yeomen service to the people of NE region in general and HQ IGAR(S) has been extending the same to people of Manipur in particular by ensuring security and peace in the region, PRO Assam Rifles has stated.
In a statement, the PRO observed that the concerted efforts in this dimension have succeeded in ensuring its mandate of facilitating appropriate conditions for development of state and while the state machinery has addressed the development throughout Manipur, the AR has been focusing on Military Civic Action projects in remote areas, which otherwise remain inaccessible to civil administration or they do not have wherewithal to implement Govt developmental schemes.
Military Civic Action projects are undertaken by Assam Rifles & Army from public funds allotted to them by Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Defence.
As stated, since Assam Rifles units are deployed in far flung remote areas, they are well aware of ground realities and can plan & undertake implementation of projects in these areas, for improving the quality of life of these estranged people.
Allotting these funds to armed forces ensures its percolation right down to grassroots level and also to the most underprivileged section of the population, the PRO maintained.
The PR went on to say that Military Civic Action projects over the years have proved their relevance and numerous projects stand testimony to this.
As on date, we see Solar Lights lighting remote villages, public benefiting from small water supply schemes, community functions being organised in Community Halls constructed as part of this project, bringing in rays of hopes through programmes such as 'Lighting a billion lives', empowerment of women and youth, upliftment of education standards by providing books, computers, generators & furniture, construction of waiting sheds along roads, much needed medical and veterinary camps and a number of awareness programmes conducted by various units.
In addition to these, the educational and awareness tours being undertaken for children and elders of the state help them to widen their knowledge, understand the nation, provide exposure so essential for growth and gain wisdom through interaction with personalities such as President, Prime Minister or CEOs of companies like Infosys.
The Involvement of the populace, the popularity of the projects & advantages they have accrued to the population residing in far flung areas are proof enough to confirm its effectiveness.
It is well understood that owing to a number of cadres deserting their militant organisations to surrender and developmental projects undertaken by Assam Rifles, generating goodwill amongst population, CorCom is losing its grounds.
Undergrounds are hence not keeping any stone unturned to revive their organisation by issuing statements as that of threatening populace to stay away from MCA activities, despite knowing that such irrational diktats amount to depriving people of their most beloved, effective & omnipresent projects which have touched their lives in multiple spheres of health, education, availability of essential amenities.
Upbringing of financial status/generation of jobs and exposure to things & places only heard of.
Assam Rifles will continue to service people of this country unflinchingly.
This year too, IGAR(S) has planned a number of developments projects for people of Manipur spanning over plethora of areas & covering entire state.
These activities have been receiving public applause and would continue with greater vigour & effectiveness, the PRO added.
