Dimapur, September 30 2012:
Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has termed the NSCN-IM as irresponsible outfit for the failure to protect the Zeliangrongs, Hmars and the Kukis in NC Hills district of Assam from the Dimasa attacks.
"The NSCN-IM had trained the Dimasa militants to suppress minorities in NC Hills," said the ZUF.
The Zeliangrong militant outfit then condemned the alleged apathy of the government of Assam and the discriminatory acts of Dimasa militants and youths against the minority communities in the NC Hills of Assam in the run up to convert the NC Hills district as the land of only Dimasa people.
The violence against some leaders of minority communities exposed the clumsy and chauvinistic attitude of Dimasa tribe which cannot claim as its own, ZUF said in a statement issued by its publicity secretary A.Dangmei.
"Mrs Kirangle Panme,(42) president, Zeme Pui Baudi, Assam, and Mrs Iwangle Riame (43), president, Indigenous Women Forum, Mr Heichungbe Zeme (40), and three students namely Mr Kibanchungbe Zeme (18) , Heireilungbe Zeme (18), Mr Hourangbe Zeme (16) and other indigenous tribal leaders belonging to Hmar community namely, Keivom Hmar(40), president, ) were seriously injured on September 28 when they were assaulted by Dimasa Tribal militants while the victims were carrying out protest rally against the proposed one sided Dimasa Territorial Council," ZUF alleged.
The victims rushed to the Haflong Police station but the police allowed the Dimasa youths coming with deadly weapons dragged them (victims) out and continued assaulting till the victims were seriously injured.
The police did not intervene which apparent step motherly treatment was deplorable, the ZUF further alleged.
It then deplored the "irresponsibility" on the part of the NSCN-IM who did not come to defend the helpless Zeliangrong, Hmar and Kuki minorities in time of perilous situation when life and security was at stake.
The Dimasa militants were trained by NSCN-IM as if to suppress the minorities, stated ZUF.
"The Zeliangrong people did not get anything in return for their unflinching support extended to NSCN IM though thick and thin but not a single incident of help was extended so far.
Such a double standard gambling NSCNIM is condemnable.
Land and resources including Hebron Camp, physical and mental support given had gone in vain and treachery," lamented ZUF.
The ZUF shall no longer remain a silent spectator should the state apathy and communal violence against the minorities continue.
