Imphal, December 27 2012:
To cool down the rising tension in the State and to restore normalcy, the State Government should arrest NSCN-IM cadre Livingstone and also all those police personnel who are involved in killing journalist Dwijamani for giving befitting punishment in accordance to the laws of the land, titular King of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has exclaimed.
In an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the act of molesting and assaulting film actress Momoco and also opening fire at two other male artists by Livingstone during a musical concert at Chandel district headquarters on December 19 was most unfortunate.
The incident has been rightly condemned by the people of the State since Manipur is a place peacefully being settled by different ethnic communities since time immemorial and at the same time women are treated with respect throughout its history of Manipur, the titular king said.
He further observed since the unfortunate incident at Chandel, chaos has reigned with people demanding arrest and punishment of Livingstone.
In such a situation, the security personnel have again resorted to killing a journalist while he was on duty.
Instead of safeguarding the life of the people, it is very unfortunate that the police personnel have started killing innocent people.
This has even more aggravated the situation in the State.
While condoling the demise of journalist Dwijamani, the titular king also appealed to the journalist fraternity to carry out their duties without fear and said that the death of journalist Dwijamani is a great loss to Manipur.
He also cautioned the State government that until and unless Livingstone is arrested and given befitting legal punishment along with the security personnel involved in the killing of Dwijamani, there can be no peace in Manipur.
