Ukhrul, December 27 2012:
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has asked the state government to compensate for those injured along Imphal-Ukhrul road during the recent general strike and questioned the rationality of certain bandh enforcers who molested a Tangkhul girl at Napetpalli on Christmas eve.
In the recent general strike imposed by Film Forum Manipur (FFM), TKS stated that around 30 persons from Tangkhul community were hurt and score of vehicles damaged in the attack by bandh enforcers along Imphal-Ukhrul road.
TKS also informed that some of the victims who are critically injured are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
''The state government must compensate for those seriously hurt and the vehicles damaged,'' TKS president Yangmi Khapai demanded.
On the eve of Christmas, the FFM total bandh was imposed in the state in protest against the molestation and assault of film artistes in Chandel.
''Surprisingly, it is too inhuman to see that some bandh enforcers sexually molested a tribal girl during the bandh.
This is beyond human imagination,'' he said.
Further, TKS mentioned that the Chandel incident was unfortunate but the Napetpalli incident, in which three men attempted to rape a girl from Risophung village, is highly condemnable.
The student body also questioned why the FFM bandh was polarised along the Imphal-Ukhrul road and felt that some sections of society were trying to communalise the issue.
''During the recent bandh, it was so obvious that the agitation was highly intensified along Ukhrul road.
Why particularise certain community? This is totally deplorable,'' it argued.
The TKS warned the government that if it failed to redress the issues raised it will launch a series of agitation.
