Probe kick-starts

The enquiry constituted in connection with the killing of video journalist Thangjam Dwijamani (Nanao) has kick-started its investigation.
Members of the committee, namely Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu, Additional DGP LM Khaute and AMWJU president A Mobi today watched video clippings captured by Dwijamani just before he was shot.
Later in the afternoon, the committee conducted a spot enquiry at the foothills of Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
Dwijamani was shot and later succumbed to injuries at RIMS when he was covering the scuffle between police and protesters at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai near his home on December 23 .
Dwijamani earlier worked as a cameraman of Prime News before joining DD News as a stringer.
In the evening of the fateful day, AMWJU representatives held a meeting with the Chief Minister and it was agreed to constitute an enquiry committee to probe into the incident which would submit its report within three days, extendable up to one week.
Two police personnel reportedly involved in killing the journalist have been already placed under suspension while eight VDF personnel have been disengaged.
