Nemcha assures welfare schemes to senior citizens

Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen assured every possible help and welfare schemes and benefits to senior citizens of the society.
She also announced that an old age home will soon be set up at Tuibong,
Churachandpur.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 4th anniversary of Kuki Senior Citizens' Welfare Forum (KSCWF), Churachandpur today at Soikholal Ideal School campus, Canan Veng, Tuibong, Nemcha Kipgen highlighted various Central sponsored schemes for old age people and said that she will take the initiative to ensure the schemes reach the people.
Proposal will be submitted to increase the amount provided to the old age people under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), she added.
Dwelling on complaints received regarding uneven distribution of old age pensions in the State, Nemcha Kipgen stated that she had already instructed the Department officials to look into the matter and take necessary actions at the earliest.
Nemcha said that she is also aware of many cases where old age pension cards are with the agents and not with the pensioners.
The Department officials have been instructed to directly hand over the cards to the pensioners under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) .
She cited how old age pension scheme has been successfully implemented in Kangpokpi AC where the DSWO collaborated with the respective communities of the block and delivered the pensions to the pensioners at their doorsteps.
Nemcha also lauded the initiative of KSCWF for voluntarily taking up various welfare programmes for the senior citizens.
The function was also attended by Churachandpur DC Shyam Lai Poonia, Churachandpur ADC Chairman Khaipao Haokip and A Umarani Devi, DSWO.
