Churachandpur, January 07 2015:
The public of Singngat sub-divisional headquarters and surrounding villages on Tuesday protested the hike in passenger fare announced by transporters and took their objection to the door-step of the Deputy Commissioner narrowly avoiding a stand-off with the police.
The protesters under the banner of the JAC against Bus Fare Hike reached the DC office here around noon on Tuesday from Singngat in several vehicles and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Lunminthang Haokip and requested him to help revert the hike fare from Rs 90 to its original fare of Rs 60 .
Despite the later's assurance to look into the matter, the protesters who mobilized their protest since Monday stood adamant demanding instant action and refused to leave the DC's office campus even after dark.
They were only dispersed after the police intervened and literally pushed them out.
