ADC pre-election exercises in hill districts

State Election Commission organised an all-political party meeting on Friday to discuss ways to ensure a 'free, fair and peaceful' ADC poll.
The election for the 144 member seats of the six councils will be held on June 1 .
Each of the 6 ADCs has 24 members, The all-political party meeting was presided over by Commission secretary TH Chitra.
Representatives of various parties appealed to make ADC election free from any problem and interference and also suggested to the Commission to open a nomination office in the valley area also.
The Commission assured positive response after proper discussion with the respective DEOs and ROs.
Congress party held a meeting to discuss the alleged interference by NSCN (IM), which threatened and prohibited Congress party from fielding their candidates in the Naga-inhabited two hill districts, Senapati and Ukhrul.
The meeting, called by Chief Minister O Ibobi, was attended by Deputy CM Gaikhangam, other Congress ministers and MLAs from hill areas.
A reliable source also said that the meeting decided to announce the list of candidates by Monday and will field candidates in all the 144 seats.
Congress has received 215 applications so far for the ADC polls.
BJP state unit also held a meeting yesterday to finalise the list of candidates for the polls.
The meeting that was chaired by state unit president Th Chaoba, party leaders discussed whether to field candidates in all the 144 seats or not.
A total of 317 applications had been received by the BJP, thereby causing a headache to party leaders as many applications are received from the same seats.
