Imphal, October 25 2018:
Federation of Haomee observed Mera- Houchongba at its office at Dewlahland yesterday.
A press release issued by the secretary general of the association mentioned that the function was observed with pomp and grandeur and during the event, the people of the hills and the valley even exchanged gifts with one another as brothers and sisters.
Pointing out that the association has been working tirelessly to bridge the gap between the hills and the valley as well as to protect the indigenous people from the large influx of people from outside the State, it explained that it is the duty of the State Government to take up necessary steps to curb the alarming influx of non indigenous people.
Despite the presence of Foreigners Act 1946 in the country, it is not enacted in Manipur which has led to growing fear of the indigenous population getting diluted by the population of India.
On the other hand, the joint Mera-Houchongba observation committee of Indigenous Minority Observation Committee Manipur, Haomee Research Guild Manipur and Manipur Peace and Integrity Council, observed Mera-Houchongba at Ireima community hall, Ikou, yesterday as well.
