Locals thrash vehicle lifters, one dead

Imphal, July 21 2021:
Three persons who were trying to steal a Honda Activa (5G) belonging to a person from Khelakhong Mayai Leikai were thrashed by a group of incensed locals.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm Tuesday when the trio tried to steal the vehicle belonging to one Siraj Ahamad (44), s/o Md Babu of Khelakhong Mayai Leikai parked on the roadside.
Noticing the trio trying to steal his vehicle, Siraj raised an alarm and the locals came out rushing and chased the vehicle lifter who escaped in a car (Maruti A Star) without registration plate.
In their effort to escape the car fell into a fish farm but were nabbed by the locals and thrashed at Khelak-hong IVR Leishangthem Khongmanung Makha around 5 pm.
After receiving report of the incident, teams of Thoubal police station and Leishangthem outpost rushed to the spot and found the thieves badly injured and rushed them to Thoubal District Hospital for medical treatment.
However, the doctor on duty declared Md Aboicha alias Riyasad (24), s/o Md Mani from Sangaiyumpham Sabal Leikai as brought dead.
The other two - Md Jamir Khan (21), s/o Md Majid Ali of Sangaiyumpham Nungphou Mamang and Md Ajmir Khan (21) s/o Md Samsul Haque of Sangaiyumpham Nungphou were examined and given medical treatment.
Further, they were referred to a general hospital for further medical treatment.
Meanwhile, body of the deceased has been handed over to the family members on Wednesday after the post-mortem at JNIMS, Imphal East.
A suo motu case has been registered for investigation.
