International Museum Day:: CM Ibobi for preservation of Sana Konung

Concerned over the present condition of Sana Konung (Royal Palace) of the last king of Manipur and the embarrassment likely to be faced while showing it to outsiders, Chief Minister O Ibobi has expressed strong desire for preserving the Palace under the Historical Monument Act along with handing it over to the State Government.
The Chief Minister was speaking as Chief Guest of the observance of International Museum Day and Temporary Exhibition on Rare Gold and Silver Objects of Manipur organized at the auditorium hall of State Museum here today.
The event was organized by the Art and Culture Department, Government of Manipur.
The Chief Minister assured that while preserving the Royal Palace under the Historical Monument Act, no construction works which might alter the original look of the Royal Palace would be allowed.
The Government will also not interfere in the customary and religious rights of the Royal family.
Those pattadars settling inside the Palace Compound would also be given their rightful compensation and made to shift from the area.

The Royal Palace would be preserved and protected like the sacred Kangla is being preserved and protected by the State Government under the Historical Monument Act today, the Chief Minister added.
He noted that the condition of the Royal Palace which is closely associated with the history of Manipur is degrading day by day and it is feared that one day it would totally get lost.
The CM also pointed out the need to expand the area of the State Museum and stated that for this, the Treasury office would be shifted to the Civil Secretariat Complex.
Delivering the Presidential speech, RK Nimai, Commissioner of Art and Culture, stated that the purpose of observing Museum Day is to make the general public, specially the students, aware of the importance of museum.
So, school students should be encouraged to visit State Museum at least once a year to acquaint with historical facts.
He went on to state that the State Government is planning to construct a gallery in the State Museum exclusively for the old and ancient instruments of the State.
