AR conducts cleanliness drive

Imphal, April 16 2021:
SajikTampak Battalion of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised a cleanliness drive under 'Bharat KaAmrutMahotsav' at SajikTampak yesterday.
The cleanliness drive aimed at cleaning of non-biodegradable waste in and around SajikTampak with an endeavour to propagate the message of Swacch Bharat Mission.
The villagers were also educated about the harmful effects of non-biodegradable wastage such as plastics, polythene and bottles.
This initiative received an overwhelming response from the local population wherein approximate 50 volunteers participated in the drive which includes 5-10 volunteers each from SajikTampak, Twilelon, Kananphai, Chahkap and Phoikon villages.
An informative lecture on 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and 'No Single Use Plastic' was conducted by the officers of Assam Rifles.
Also, a clarion call was made to preserve, protect the environment from plastic.
The village chiefs, local residents and youth expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Assam Rifles for conducting such awareness drives.
On the other hand Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(South) conducted an anti-drug awareness lecture and rally under the theme of "Fit India Movement" at ThongamLeikei colony in Imphal West on 15 April 2021 .
The anti-drug awareness lecture and rally was organised with an aim to create awareness among the locals about the menace of drugs.
The locals were briefed about the harmful effects of drugs on human body and society.
The relation of drugs with crime was also stressed upon and how it leads to increase in contraction of diseases like AIDS were also adequately highlighted.
The villagers were advised on various government schemes and centers to help relieve drug addiction.
After the informative lecture, the participants took out an awareness rally against drug abuse to ensure the message is spread to even the remote corner of the area.
A total of 53 people including students, school staff and few locals attended the event The event culminated with light refreshments for all the attendees.
The participating members were obliged for the informative session and thanked the Assam Rifles for reaching out to them.
The event was organised by strictly adhering to the government norms pertaining to COVID protocols.
