Even as the world is crippled by the spread of COVID-19, another virus has emerged in Churachandpur district, months ahead of its usual appearance.
A case of Japanese Encephalitis, a mosquito borne virus which usually emerges in the monsoon months of June to October was detected on May 8, sources said.
A patient residing at New Lamka's Lengtonghoih Street in Churachandpur town was diagnosed with the infectious ailment.
The discovery has led the district Malaria Department to deploy preventive measures ahead of the season, carrying out fogging in the locality.
With the virus' early appearance, local health authorities have appealed the public to take extra care to avoid mosquito bites and also to remove any water clogging site in and around their homes.
