Students protest Onycon, sign agreement

Noney, July 13 2018:
Rhema Public School, Noney took out a protest rally Thursday against Onycon company for alleged man-made flood Wednesday which damaged school properties.
The village and the school in Lukhambi Part 2 under Haochong sub-division, Noney have been facing frequent flood for the past four years due to a 'faulty' retaining wall constructed by the company, claimed the villagers.
The The murky waters from the work-site of the company are identified as the main cause of the flood.
The protest rally started from NH-37 and later proceeded to the office of the Project Manager Onycon Company, demanding reconstruction/renovation of the infrastructures of the school damaged in the 'man-made' flood.
The students also demanded construction of RCC stream embankments in school and village area.
The school authority submitted an ultimatum to the Project Manager of the company and finally an agreement was signed to clear off debris and other inundation from the school campus within 4 days so that classes can be resumed after.
The agreement also includes construction of a 700 metres long RCC stream embankment wall in the school and village area to control flood during raining season.
Books, uniforms and other utensils of the school have been swept away by the 'man-made' flood said the students.
