ZLR people differ from others: Sambhu Singh

THE ZELIANGRONG people are different from others.
This was stated by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Sambhu Singh, IAS who visited Tamenglong today to hand over the message of the Ministry of Home Affairs, government of India.
He was received this afternoon at IB, district HQs where he collected a number of memorandums from social leaders.
In a 25 minute meeting with Zeliangrong leaders, Sambhu Singh informed the gathering that the government of India has made amends to the ADC Act and have given more powers to the Autonomous District Councils.
He also informed that the Village Authority Act will be amended to provide more powers.
He said, work plans in the villages should be planned by the Village Authority and that they should execute the works.
Only work plans put up by the Village Authorities should be approved by the ADC and then would the Centre approve the work plans, he said.
He also said, in the Village Authority 30% seats are reserved for women.
All the other hill districts have agreed to the amendment but Kuki chiefs and some other chiefs in Senapati have opposed it.
Workshops will be organized at the district HQs for more understanding on the issue, he said.
Sambhu Singh said, it might not be possible for the State government to look after all the districts.
Local self government needs to be enforced and that we should be proactive.
Work programmes have been taken up since September, 2010.'The sooner these are implemented, it will be better for the people', Sambhu Singh, IAS said.
He explained that the posting of one Battalion of CRPF along NH 53 is to protect the Zeliangrong people.
No IRB battalions are posted in Zeliangrong areas.
The officer had no time for futher interaction with the Zeliangrong leaders.
He had lunch at 11 Assam Rifles and left the district around 2:30 pm.
During his short stay, the Joint Secretary Home, GoI received memorandum from the Village Authority Chairman Council, Tamenglong, Zeliangrong Student's Union, Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) and Zeliangrong Union (AMN) .
