12 state natives among the best of the country

Contrary to initial report in this daily with regard to number of successful candidates from manipur in the Civil Services examination 2010 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, a total of 12 candidates have defied all odds to be among the best in the country.
The success of these candidates is against the general concept that education system in the State has failed miserably.
Information received here indicate that almost all these candidates had their early education in this strife-torn State, a compelling factor for many to pursue higher studies in other parts of the country.
The unprecedented success came at a time when the state government is gearing up to bring about a value based education at all levels.
Among the successful candidates, Haulinalal Guite hailing from Churachandpur district and currently staying at New Delhi topped his State-mates to rank 33 in the merit list.
"I'm so happy with my rank.
My credit goes to my parents and the almighty," 23-year old Guite, whose parents are both doctors and serving in New Delhi told The Sangai Express from the national capital this afternoon.
"I read five to six hours a day to compete in the examination," said Guite, who completed his bachelors' degree from St Stephen college, New Delhi.
Till date, he is the second candidate from Manipur to be ranked among top 50, after RK Dinesh Singh of Imphal, who ranked 11 in 1999 examination.
The other successful candidates include Kumam Mini Devi, Hungyo Worshang, M Devender Singh, L Prabhunanda Singh, Maharabam Pradip Singh, Pauzakham Ngaihte, Kayio Kayina TH, Thari Sitkil, RN Ramnung, Wormila Jasmine Keishing and Michael Khamsei Touthang.
Of the 12, four are Meiteis while the others belong to different tribal communities including Tangkhul, Paite, Kuki, etc.
It is informed that Wormila, currently doing her master's degree in JN University, is the granddaughter of Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing.
"I'm so glad with the whooping number of brilliant candidates from Manipur clearing the biggest and prestigious examination.
They have got the prizes for their hard labour and dedication and we are really proud of them," former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing said told from New Delhi.
The number of successful candidates has virtually served as an elixir for a large number of young Civil Service aspirants to work hard to achieve their ambition.
"I'll undergo my further studies in New Delhi where I'll prepare for the Civil Services examination.
Wednesday's UPSC result with many Manipuri coming out with flying colours has provided me an impetus to study hard and become an IAS officer," quipped H Nikhil, an Imphal resident.
