UKNA cadre arrested for attempted extortion

Churachandpur, February 04 2018:
A 37 year old individual, was arrested for attempted extortion on February 3, after he allegedly sent threatening letters to the CEO of ADC Churachandpur, demanding a sum of Rs 50 lakh.
The Churachandpur police had claimed that they received a complaint about the demand by an outfit, United Kuki National Army (UKNA), from the CEO, ADCC on February 2 .
'It was a blind case to investigate with no one having any information about this new outfit,' SP Churachandpur Rakesh Balwal stated.
However, as sleuths of the district police swung into action, they managed to close in on a suspect which was arrested yesterday.
Identified as Nguljalen Haokip (37), s/o Tonglam of S Moldung, the suspect has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the case, according to police.
'He has admitted to have printed and served the demand letter through post office.
He is undergoing investigation to find out other details,' added SP Balwal.
The SP further appealed the public to report such cases of extortion without hesitation and warned that anything which may create nuisance to the peaceful atmosphere of CCpur town will not be neglected by the authorities.
