Imphal, February 21 2015 :
The ongoing process of Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) coupled with misconduct of the LPG distributors under Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have led to acute shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the State.
The LPG consumers of the State have not been able to get their monthly quota regularly despite the DBTL Scheme being implemented all over the country from January 1 this year.
Moreover, the refilled LPG cylinders booked prior to the implementation of DBTL have also not been issued to the consumers.
The Central Government's policy of "12 subsidized LPG cylinders to every household in a year" has been turned into a farce with consumers getting only five/six cylinders in a year.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao on this issue, an IOC official said that all LPG distributors have been strictly instructed to complete implementation of DBTL Scheme by March 31 next month.
He further said that there are around 2.70 lakh LPG consumers in the State, but the exact number of DBTL beneficiaries could be ascertained only after March 31 .
Frequent blockades along the national highways and insufficient capacity of Sekmai Bottling Plant are some hiccups for the IOC to supply 12 cylinders in a year to every consumer household in the State, the official admitted.
