Imphal, October 18 2015:
A man claiming to be a member of the proscribed RPF on Sunday snatched 14 tolas of gold worth Rs 4.5 lakh from a jewellery shop located at RIMS road.
The shop named Opendro Jewellery Work is owned by one Khumanthem Opendro (37), son of Kh Modhu of Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai.
During an interaction with mediapersons at Manipur Press Club on Sunday, the owner of the shop Opendro recalled that one person claiming to be an RPF member came to his shop around 9 am.
The person asked Opendro to hand over "the weapons kept in his shop" by one James alias Boy a week ago.
Opendro denied having any knowledge of James.
The person then asked Opendro to come along with him.
Feeling suspicious about the intention of the person, Opendro quickly packed all gold jewelleries from his shop and put on a two-wheeler (Pleasure Scooter) which was parked outside the shop.
The person asked Opendro to drop him somewhere on the same two-wheeler.
Opendro's brother Amarjit told the man that he will drop him on another two-wheeler (Honda Daio) as the first vehicle had no registration number.
However, the person snatched the keys of the "Pleasure Scooter" from Amarjit and drove towards RIMS hospital with Amarjit sitting behind.
Opendro said further said that the person knocked down Amarjit from the two-wheeler near RIMS Hospital residential quarters and sped away towards Thangmeiband side.
Police personnel posted nearby were informed immediately but they could not trace the person.
Opendro said that the person had not revealed his name.
Opendro has now appealed the proscribed RPF to clarify whether the person was really member of RPF and ask the outfit to probe into the incident at earliest.
