Imphal, January 07 2009: ATLEAST EIGHT militant cadres hailing from different outfits operating in Manipur have been arrested by the Thoubal police commandos over the last three days in separate incidents.

A press statement issued by Clay Khongsai, IPS, Superintendent of the Thoubal police informed that the police commandos on Monday afternoon at about 12:30 arrested three cadres of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) after having received specific information about their presence in the general area of Khangabok, Thoubal district.

They have been identified as Leishangthem Kusha Meetei (28), son of L Khambi, Leishangthem Kiran (25), son of L Achouba and Leishangthem Bijen (32), son of L Ibocha, all residence of Leishangthem Khong Manung Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district.

Later in the evening at about 5:30, the police commandos also arrested a cadre of the PREPAK (VC) at Waikhong Bazaar, informed the SP.

The apprehend has been identified as Khumukcham Lakshmansana @ Ingocha (32), son of Kh Gourabidhu of Kakching Khunou Bamon Leikai in Thoubal district with army No.823 .

According to the SP, 3 live rounds of AK ammn were recovered from his possession.

Besides these, the Thoubal police commandos on Wednesday arrested an active member of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF), Umar Farooque faction, added the press statement of the Thoubal SP.

The cadre was arrested at about 11:45 am in the area of Ngariyan Ching Makhong along Imphal-Yairipok road during frisking and checking, added the SP.

The PULF cadre has been identified as Md Jalaorudding @ Sabir alias Anil (38), son of Md Jamaruddin of Yairipok Changamdabi, Thoubal district.

Meanwhile, Imphal East commando also nabbed four members of different outfit from separate places on January 3 and 4, a statement of the Imphal SP, Th Radheshyam stated.

Two of them said to be members of KCP (MC) namely Lairenlakpam Sunil (22), son of late Tomba of Phaknung Mayai Leikai and Okram Arjit @ Abungcha (19), son of O Sanaton of Phaknung Sagomshang were apprehended from near Hanging bridge at Phaknung on January 3 .

The two nabbed members were involved in extortion of money from government officials, shopkeepers, contractors, businessmen etc under the supervision of one Yaiphaba of KCP, the statement said.

The same statement further stated that Imphal East police commandos also arrested one KCP member namely Naorem Julon (58), of Heingang Awang Leikai from Sangakpham area on January 4.He joined the outfit in the year 2008 and also provided shelter to the members of the outfit.

Again on the same day one PULF (Umar Farukh) group namely Mayangmayum Nano @ Rohit @ Sukur Ali (20), son of late Qudus Ali of Sora Mayai Leikai was nabbed from Kongba area in the evening around 5 pm.
