Jiribam, January 07 2009:
Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) refuted the allegations made against some RNBA evangelists that they had razed a Hindu temple to ground at Ujjan Tarapur under Cachar district of Assam on January 3, which was published in some dailies.
Giving a detailed account of the incident, Rev Poukhan of Namdailong Baptist Church confided that a Hindu believer, R Alum of Ujjan Tarapur Rongmei Colony wanted to convert himself to Christianity from his own conscience.
He was then advised by two evangelist namely R Thiurongdin and K Huaina to give up idol worship and forsake the Kali temple constructed by him.
As per the advice, Alum alongwith his associates dismantled the temple in order to embrace Christianity.
Then some Hindus started shouting that Christians have destroyed their temple, thus prompting the Lakhipur police to come and arrested the two preachers and Alum, Rev Poukhum added.
He appealed everyone not to sensationalise the incident as it may lead to unnecessary hostility between the the two groups.
It may be recalled that two avengelists along with a newly Christian convert have been imprisoned in Silchar jail on the charges that they have destroyed a Hindu temple.
