Sekmai Scheduled Caste Development Committee (ASSCDC), an apex body of local organisations of Awang Sekmai, in a meeting held on Saturday has resolved to boycott the local MLA if Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) for the constituency is not set up by June 2 .
Among others, the meeting was attended by ASSCDC vice presidents Ayambam Obo, Y Sarat, Koujengleimai Youth Development Organisation (KYDO) secretary Kh Rakesh Singh, Sekmai Panchayat ex-vice chairperson A Purnimasi and social worker Moirangthem Ibocha.
During the meeting, Ayambam Obo demanded the Covid-19 Management Committee, Awang Sekmai, which is chaired by the local MLA H Dingko, to open a CHIC in the constituency by June 2, as per the order of Imphal West DC notified on May 7 .
If the MLA fails to do so, he will be boycotted in Awang Sekmai, the vice president cautioned.
KYDO secretary Kh Rakesh Singh informed that so far 200 people have tested positive and 5 have died in Awang Sekmai due to Covid.
On Saturday, another fatality was reported, increasing the total number of deaths to 6 .
"While the number of positive cases are increasing on a daily basis, the patients have to quarantine at home as there is no CHIC in the area, which is only adding on to the risks", Rakesh remarked and urged the local MLA to do all that is necessary including opening up a CHIC.
