Kakching, May 29 2021:
United Youth's Progressive Organization (UYPO), Kakching has revealed that many NFSA card holders of Kakching Chumnang Awang Leikai have refused to take rice allocated for the month of May after the agent concerned tried to distribute only 3kg rice per head of the beneficiary families against the entitlement of 5kg per head as announced by the Government of India.
According to a statement of UYPO, the Government of India announced free ration (5kg rice/wheat) for the months of May and June under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for every NSFA card holders of the country in view of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
However, many card holders of Kakching Chumnang Awang Leikai falling under 37/7 polling station of Kakching assembly constituency have refused to take rice for May after the particular agent tried to distribute only 3kg per beneficiary.
When enquired, the new agent failed to give reasonable reply and this prompted UYPO to lodge a written complaint to DC Kakching urging the latter to intervene and provide the entitled rice quota (5kg) to each beneficiary of the polling station so that suffering of the people amidst the pandemic is eased at least to some extent.
The organisation also drew attention of the government in this regard and strongly called for awarding befitting punishment to those responsible for siphoning off rice quota for the poor and needy people.
