Imphal, March 25 2012:
To ensure adequate power supply in the light of scathing criticism over alleged failure of his government in power sector, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh wishes to retain the portfolio of Power as well to do the needful.
According to a reliable source, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh could no longer bear the criticism of the people on his government over erratic power supply and has been pondering over ways and means of improving the power situation in the state.
According, he has also started discussing with concerned Engineers on recovering the unpaid taxes amounting to Rs 300 crores from the consumers.
It is very likely for the government to come up with some specific strategy in this regard soon.
The source said that since it would not be an easy task to provide 16 hours of uninterrupted power supply with huge amounts spending on procuring power from other states, the Chief Minister feels that it would be wiser not to entrust power sector to any Cabinet Minister and look after himself.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Chief Minister O Ibobi would also be portfolio of Finance and Planning intact with himself.
This is in tune with the decision of retaining the portfolio of Power.
Chief Minister is of the opinion that none of his Cabinet Ministers would be capable of bringing the financial status at a steady level after being shaken through implementation of 6th pay commission.
On the other hand, another source disclosed that Congress MLAs have started hauling charges against each other in the fight for Ministerial berths.
Even as signature campaigns have been started among some Congress MLAs to exert pressure on the Chief Minister for giving Ministerial berths, some MLAs have lobbied with the Central leaders in this regard.
