Robert Naorem breaks silence on beauty pageant controversy

Reacting to the allegations made against the selection of a non-local in Miss Manipur Queen contest, renowned fashion designer Robert Naorem who was the director of the event strongly decried the misinterpretation and wrong information circulated on social media and in local dailies.
Mention may be made that a non-local Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia was selected to represent Manipur in the prestigious Femina Miss India contest.
Addressing media persons at Robert Naorem Academy located at Uripok today, Robert Naorem clarified that Miss Manipur Queen contest was organised with the firm objective of promoting indigenous people through such beauty pageants.

She further clarified that Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia was approved by Miss India Organisation as an eligible candidate to participate in Miss Manipur Queen contest in accordance with the laid-out norms.
Dismissing the allegations that she was instrumental in bringing the non-local candidate to take part in the beauty pageant, Robert Naorem maintained that she has been promoting the unique traditional attires of Manipur and its indigenous people through fashion both in the National and International level.
She also clarified that she had not sought financial assistance or donors to organise the beauty pageant.
The fashion designer claimed the beauty pageant was organised with a sum of Rs 5 lakh from her pocket.
She appealed to the civil society organisations and individuals to ascertain the facts first before levelling such false allegations.
