Drugs worth Rs 12 crore seized

Personnel of 12 Assam Rifles arrested a drug peddler along with banned drugs items worth around Rs 12 crore near the motor vehicle check post at Tengnoupal.
Speaking to the media persons at NCB Regional Unit Office, Imphal, Nector Sanjenbam, CO of 12 Assam Rifles, said that acting on specific information about the transportation of banned drugs items along the Asian Highway number 1, Imphal-Moreh road, Assam Rifles personnel carried out intensified frisking and checking of vehicles plying along the Highway at motor vehicle check post, Tengnoupal.
One Tata Sumo Grande (bearing registration number TR01-0250) was thoroughly checked by the Assam Rifles team and during the checking, the security forces found 1.865 kilograms of brown sugar in 136 packets and 450 packets of World is Yours (W/Y) tablets (containing 90,000 tablets) inside the said vehicle.
The value of the seized drug items is estimated to be worth around Rs 12 crore.
The occupant of the Tata Sumo, identified as PaokholenBaite (21) of Tuipi Lokchao, Moreh, was arrested on the spot and the drug items were seized as well.
After confirmation of the contraband, 12 Assam Rifles informed the Narcotics Control Bureau, Imphal Unit, to take up further action as per the law.
After completion of all the necessary formalities with officer of 12 Assam Rifle, the team of NCB seized the drugs under NDPS Act.
Rakesh Singh Shukla, Northeast region Zonal Director, NCB, said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested individual revealed that the seized drug items came from Moreh and the drug items are supposed to be smuggled to other parts of the country through Meghalaya.
Further interrogation of the arrested individual is underway and he will be produced before the Court as per due process of law, he added.
