Imphal Art College to be full fledged Government college soon

The Government is in the process of converting Imphal Art College into a full fledged Government college, said Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh.
Manipur is known for its rich culture.
People from all over the world have heard about Manipur and many International and National cultural organisations have had invited artistes of the State to showcase the rich cultural flavours at foreign stages.
It is our duty to promote this culture and traditions, he said.
The Minister was speaking at the second Foundation Day of The Manipur University of Culture at the Hall of Government Music College, Palace Compound, Imphal East today.
Stating that establishment and construction of the University requires a large budget, the Minister expressed concern that the present State budget have not much for the project.
Proposal for sanction of for Rs 200 crore was made to the Union HRD Ministry for construction of the University.
Of the proposed Rs 200 crore, the approved Rs 75 crore is a meagre amount to sustain the establishment and development of the much needed varsity, he said.
The HRD Ministry has given 'commitment' to sanction the remaining amount, he informed and continue that it will take time and he have to meet the HRD Minister with necessary documents for 'justification'.
Foundation stone for Manipur University of Culture was laid on December 28, 2017 at Nongmaijing Chingkhong Wakha, Imphal East district.
Speaking about the infrastructures and faculties of the varsity, L Jayantakumar stressed the need for regulari-sation and appointment of regular teachers.
On promotion of indigenous culture, the Minister urged the people to be friendly, kind and show courtesy towards any visiting foreigners.
This will spread good news, promote our culture and attract more visitors, he said.
Vice-Chancellor Manipur University of Culture N Khagendra Singh attended the event as president.
