Slur cast on appointment process of Prof in NIT

Imphal, August 12 2018:
Serious allegations have been raised against the recent appointment process of a Professor to NIT, Lamphel by an intending candidate who allegedly was willfully screened out.
Speaking to The Sangai Express a source well acquainted with the case alleged that an academician who is teaching outside the State had applied for the post of a Professor at NIT, Lamphel recently.
However her application was screened out on the alleged ground that she failed to meet the requirements laid down for the said post.
The source said that NIT, Lamphel modified the qualification norms to suit their convenience.
A norm laid down by NIT Lamphel states, "The candidates shall have PhD in relevant discipline with first class in the preceding degrees" .
This is against the norms laid down by the Ministry of Human Resource Department, which clearly lays down, "All new entrants shall have PhD in the relevant or equivalent discipline shall have first class in the preceding degree." All new entrants refer to Assistant Professors, said the source and pointed out that the candidate here is a Professor with 13 years experience in that capacity.
A Professor does not come under the "all new entrants" category, said the source and added that the candidate is also Dean of Sciences in a Central University.
The first class in the preceding degree criteria therefore cannot be applied in her case, said the source as she does come under the new entrants category.
The only reason the said Professor applied is to be posted at Manipur, being a native of Manipur.
The academic credentials of the said Professor, who was screened out testifies her qualification, said the source and added that she passed HSLC in 1980 under Manipur Board in the 1st division, secured 6th position (Science) in Pre-University under MU and graduated with honours in Chemistry in 1985, where she missed out on a first class.
She passed her Masters in Science from South Gujarat University, Surat in the 1st Class with distinction topping in Physical Chemistry and did her PhD in Bhavnagar University and CSMCRI, Bhavnagar, Gujarat in 1995 .
She has been Professor for 13 years from 2005, added the source.
