Drug Users face untold miseries in Moreh

Drug Users in the border town of Moreh are facing untold miseries exclaim Seithang mate, convenor of Care Me Group, Moreh.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline of an emergency meeting of the Care Me Group (an association of drug users of Moreh) held at Moreh, Seithang Mate said that the drug users are facing a lot of problems owing to the halt in the income due to the prolonged bandh as most of the drug users are engaged as porters, thela pullers and coolis.
He further said that the people of Moreh are in a great danger of falling into drug addiction and HIV&Aids infection due to the towns proximity to the Golden Triangle in one hand and the state governments total failure to protect the lives oif the marginalized friends.
Not a single rehabilitation centre has been set up by the government in Moreh.
Even when the drug users are ready to give up drugs and come to the mainstream, the system doesn't support them and they are compelled to fall victims to drugs, lamented Seithang Mate.
He further questioned the state government on the hidden agenda and the motive behind the prolonged negligence on the part of the government to provide facilities for the drug users and hiv positives of the town.
Rajen, general secretary of Care Me Group also accused the government for its inefficiencies and termed it as gross human rights violations for failing to set up of a full fledged ART Centre at the border town of Moreh.
Most of the Hiv positives in Moreh are now caught I a dilemma as the stock of ART medicine is running out because of the on-going bandh.
None of the positives are able to travel to Imphal for procuring the ART medicines.Though it is the right of every HIV positive to get ART, the patients of Moreh are reeling under heavy nightmare.
He further said that every drug user and even hiv positives have the right to life under the constitution.
He questioned whether the government is committing homicide by neglecting the marginalized section of the population.
Rajen said that they are fully committed to protect the lives of the drug users by enabling them to access all the health related facilities for which they are entitled.
He further threatened the concern authority that they would resort to various agitations until their demands are fulfilled.
