Imphal, September 03 2011:
Inspite of nearly six hours of negotiation consensus continue to elude the vexed issue of Sadar Hills and the agitation arising out of the demand for upgrading Sadar hills to a full-fledged revenue district.
To resolve the impasse over the Sadar Hills issue a meeting of public leaders was held today at the Keithelmanbi campus of HM Higher Secondary School which lasted from about 11 am till over 5 pm.
Attended by former Minister Ngamthang Haokip, Members of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, functionaries of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee, representatives of the Committee's sub-committees and other organisations the meeting deliberated on the resolutions passed in the three previous public meetings at Gamgiphai, Kangpokpi and Saikul.
It is informed that inspite of appeals from various sections of the society to lift the ongoing road blockade in the light of scarcity of essential commodities figuring prominently at the meeting it failed to arrive at a consensus thereby convening another meeting tomorrow, where a final decision is likely.
Responding to queries of newspersons, SHDDC spokesperson Seikhothang Haokip said there is some development in the meeting but declined to divulge the outcome.
He further informed that a final decision on the issue might be announced tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in support of the demand for upgrading Sadar Hills to a district, one Otmang Kipgen has been on fast-unto-death campaign at Saikul for the last three days.
As Otmang's health condition is said to be deteriorating a medical team of Saikul Health Centre is closely monitoring his condition, an informed source said.
