Senapati, August 28 2015 :
Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur State Unit on Friday warned that it will be compelled to launch an intense agitation against the State Government for its failure to form Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in Tamemnglong and Chandel districts.
The NPF's warning followed a joint meeting of the executive members of NPF Manipur State Unit at its headquarters in Senapati.
The NPF executive members deliberated "the prolonged delay" in the formation of ADCs in the two hill districts even after nearly three months of the declaration of ADC results.
The meeting discussed the possible consequences in the relationship between the hills and the valley due to the delaying tactics adopted by the State Government.
While accusing the State Government of discrimination and scuttling the democratic rights of the tribals, NPF Manipur State Unit N Awangbou stressed on the importance of ADC as an important democratic institution for the tribal people.
NPF also said that the ADCs in the two districts should have been formed immediately after the submission of the election report by June 16 and declaration of the gazette order the next day.
However, no order was issued to form the ADC by the State Government and this had hurt the feelings of the hill people, said the party.
It may be recalled that Tamenglong ADC members have been on a protest strike since August 22 over the failure of the State Government to take tangible action towards the formation of the ADC even though Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong had already staked its claim.
If the demand of the hill people falls on deaf ears, the party will be compelled to launch an uprising of the tribal communities for the early formation of the ADCs in the two hill districts, asserted the NPF Manipur Unit.
ILPS issue discussed .
The NPF meeting also discussed the Inner Line Permit System issue as demanded and spearheaded by JCILPS.
While extending support to the implementation of ILPS, the NPF was apparently miffed with the State Government for not consulting the hill people while holding a series of consultations with the JCILPS.
NPF has also alleged that the JCILPS has been "represented only by the valley people" and questioned as to whether or not the ILPS is meant only for a section of the valley people.
The party clarified that it had not seen the three Bills introduced on Friday but warned that if it weakened the rights of the tribals, the party will strongly oppose to the Bills.
